One of the first things I knew I wanted to change in my beauty regime to be more sustainable was the razors I was using, in the past I had always used disposable plastic razors which are terrible for the environment as most cannot be recycled and end up in the land-fill. While cheap and easily accessible they blunt quickly and are also a nightmare for causing shaving rash and ingrowing hairs, on a mission to hit two birds with one stone I went on a google quest to find something better for both the environment and my hair follicles.

I debated for a long while between a safety razor and a brand I discovered called Friction Free Shaving, in the end I went with FFS because I was slightly afraid of the safety razor option and wasn't convinced it would reach all those little nooks and crannies that a traditional women's razor head shape can. So what was it about Friction Free Shaving that caught my eye? First of all their products are all cruelty free and they have some great sustainability aspects too with all their packaging being recyclable, and as the razor heads are detachable you can send back used blades back to FFS who will recycle them for you which is a much better solution than the disposable razors I was piling into the bin beforehand.

Pictured above is the Friction Free Shaving Gift Box which was very kindly gifted to me by FFS and includes a personalised rose gold razor, four razor heads estimated to last four weeks with daily shaving, shower hook, blade cover, clamshell protector, travel bag and the three step Pre Shave Scrub, Shave Cream and Post Shave Balm all for £27.00.

A subscription product you can also try FFS from £9/month which includes the razor handle and four blades, or use the code ROBYN25 for 25% off making this option just £6.75 for the first month. You can choose between having replacement blades monthly which is recommended for every day shavers, or bi-monthly if you shave a couple of times a week which is the option I will sign up for once this pack of razors finished.

Using Friction Free Shaving's products for the first time was something of a game changer for me, in the past shaving has always been an inconvenience and something I usually dread doing however that has all changed. With a three step system to help you get a super smooth shave I can now see why the brand is called Friction Free Shaving. Starting with the exfoliating pre shave scrub to remove dead skin follicles the walnut scrub was lovely to use to prep the legs before applying the moisturising manuka honey and coconut shave cream which helped the razor literally glide over of my legs and awkward areas like my ankles and knees without so much as a worry of nicking myself, something I do quite regularly. Stepping out of the shower and drying myself off it was time to for the final step, a swipe of the post-shave balm which conditions and soothes your skin to reduce irritability and restores moisture. And ta-da, all done!

Using the Friction Free Shaving products felt more like a little bit of luxurious me time than it did completing a task I usually dislike doing, and I can certainly now see why the brand have won awards and get glowing reviews, while on the sustainability side FFS certainly get points for their recyclability aspect in comparison to the disposable plastic razors I was using before and for being leaping bunny certified too.
